Holland was thinking about Walter’s previous menacing performance in Play Misty. “Brad Dourif wasn’t available, he was filming Spontaneous Combustion with Tobe Hooper.” “I got into the post on it, and I needed to voice Chucky for the previews,” Holland told the post. In an interview with the New York Post on March 25, the day after Walter’s death, Child’s Play director Holland explained why he needed Walter to record. Since Dourif played Ray in the beginning of the movie, it’s odd to think that Chucky’s voice would be different.

‘Child’s Play’ director Tom Holland explains why he tried out Jessica Walter “The thinking behind it was that because an actress, Mercedes McCambridge, had voiced the voice of Satan so successfully, that maybe that would work again,” Mancini added. The casting of Walter goes back to another horror classic, The Exorcist. “Would he sound sweet, would he sound menacing, would one person play both of those roles? Jessica came in and did a very good job but it just wasn’t working.” “We brought in a host of people just to try to understand ourselves what Chucky would sound like,” Kirschner said. And when you really think about it hasn’t Campbell always been Sam Raimi’s personal cartoon? So it seems that we might be seeing an animated Bruce Campbell sooner than later.

Even Sam Raimi is on board with the idea of an animated series continuing on. This appears to be taking shape now that Comic-Con is out and over with. And we’re already talking about an animated. I still sound like Ash, and you know, my voice hasn’t been as beat up as my body has been so I can still do that crap. “You can do the future a lot easier in animation. While talking with Collider, Campbell said that he would still consider playing Ash again in a continuation of Ash Vs. Now it seems that Campbell might not be quite finished playing Ash in Ash Vs. In fact, Evil Dead: The Game just no came out and it saw Campbell return to playing Ash. However, he has continued lending his voice to games. Evil Dead ended Bruce Campbell went on record to say that it would be the last time he would play a real-life physical version of Ash. While audience test screenings aren’t always a good thing – they often lead to executives meddling in the creative process in a bad way – this case certainly presents a scenario where test reactions effectively saved the film. It’s crazy to think about how close the horror genre came to being robbed of Dourif’s incredible work as Chucky. It eventually went into total self-referential, which was Bride and Seed, and now that everybody’s doing remakes, it’s gone back to being scarier.” It’s been a huge part of what’s made him successful. Everything is about the event, and Chucky’s always had to be a little camp. I know what to do here.’ It wasn’t like we were against something that’s funny. He’s serious, and what’s funny is funny.’ The ‘fuck you’ on the elevator, that was just improv. I listened to what they did, and I just said, ‘It’s very clear why this doesn’t work. Please come and do this,’ so I went there and did it. I was going to go to Woodstock and spend some time there, and they said, ‘No, no, no. “ At that point, I’d finished working on Mississippi Burning. They got this guy, and him and Tom Holland did the whole movie, and they stood up and they laughed their asses off, and apparently it was really funny, and they loved it, and they put it in front of an audience, and the audience hated it. “ What happened is when they did the first Child’s Play, I was doing Mississippi Burning at the time, and they needed me to go to the studio, which, of course, I couldn’t go to because I was on set working, so they got somebody else. During a recent interview with The AV Club, Dourif went into detail about how he ended up landing the role, and it turns out to have been a much more complex process than most would have expected:

That said, the world came surprisingly close to a reality where Chucky was performed by a different actor. Dourif has played many memorable roles over the course of his prolific career, but perhaps none are more closely associated with him than the wisecracking terror toy.ĭourif has voiced Chucky in the entire Child’s Play franchise so far, and is set to return for part 7.
#Voice of chucky serial
Equally as iconic as the series’ premise of a serial killer’s soul possessing a friendly looking doll named Chucky is the voice work for the aforementioned pint-sized fiend, provided by Oscar-winning actor Brad Dourif. After six films – with a seventh in development – the Child’s Play series is now safely an institution of modern horror.
